I really value natural and chemical free beauty products. I don't like to put chemicals and toxins on my skin any more than I like eating them. I am always checking ingredients lists on skincare products to make sure they are as natural as possible, but the best way to make sure of this is to make them yourself.
Embrace the tranquility of self-care with a touch of homemade magic. Today, we're diving into the soothing world of Lavender Sea Salt Scrub-a simple concoction that whispers serenity into your skincare routine. Imagine the gentle embrace of fine sea salt, the nourishing caress of melted coconut oil, and the delicate essence of lavender dancing together in a jar. Picture a moment just for you, a ritual of self-love that takes only 10 minutes to create but lingers for months in its calming embrace. Join me on this journey, as we craft a potion that not only exfoliates but nourishes the soul.
Ingredients
- fine sea salt
- coconut oil
- dried herbs (optional)
- lavender essential oil
Indulge in the goodness of nature as we unravel the enchanting benefits of each ingredient in our Lavender Sea Salt Scrub. Fine, mineral-rich sea salt, a gentle exfoliator, sweeps away the remnants of the day, leaving your skin feeling rejuvenated and invigorated. For extra mineral benefits choose dead sea salt as your salt choice. Melted coconut oil, a nourishing elixir, imparts a velvety touch, locking in moisture and bestowing a natural radiance.
Dried herbs, if you choose to sprinkle them in, add an extra layer of botanical bliss. Dried lavender (lavandula angustifolia) of course is perfect. Lastly, the heart of our potion-lavender essential oil-not only graces your senses with its calming fragrance but also boasts soothing properties for both mind and body. Always use the highest quality essential oil that you can afford. Together, these ingredients harmonize into a symphony of self-care, leaving you with skin that feels as if it has been kissed by serenity. Revel in the embrace of this homemade creation, where every drop and grain is a testament to the love you deserve.

This scrub pairs well with my lilac face and body cream recipe and together they would make a wonderful gift!
How to use your lavender sea salt scrub
Using your (clean) hands, scoop a tablespoon of the scrub from the jar. Rub the scrub in a circular motion across your wet skin for 1-2 minutes, paying particular attention to any rough areas like your elbows and knees. Don't scrub too hard - you don't want to get sore skin. You want to only be exfoliating the top layer of dead skin cells. Wash the scrub off your skin in the shower with warm water, cleaning with a clean cloth or flannel and dry with a soft clean towel. Because of the coconut oil in this body scrub you should be left with soft, moisturised, smooth skin without any need for moisturiser afterwards. If you do feel the need for a moisturiser, or have particularly dry skin try my homemade body butter or a shea butter moisturiser for some intense hydration.
The scrub is suitable for external use over your entire body, but avoid the face area and other sensitive parts.
I love using this scrub and then getting into a warm evening shower. It is the perfect way to relax after a long day. A container of sea salt scrub would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone special too. Simply label the jar with the ingredients and best before date before you gift it to them.
Substitutions and Variations
The beauty of DIY recipes is the room for creativity. Here are some substitutions and variations you can explore for the Lavender Sea Salt Scrub:
Salt Variation
Instead of fine natural sea salts, try using Epsom salts for a more detoxifying effect or pink Himalayan salt for added minerals.
Oil Alternatives
Replace melted coconut oil with sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, apricot kernel oil or olive oil for different skincare benefits and scents.
Herb Options
Experiment with dried herbs like chamomile, rosemary, or calendula for added skincare properties and unique fragrances.
Essential Oil Blends
Create custom blends by combining lavender with other essential oils such as chamomile, peppermint, or eucalyptus for a personalized aroma and wonderful scent.
Additional Ingredients
Add a tablespoon of aloe vera gel for extra hydration.
Colorful Additions
Incorporate natural colorants like spirulina powder, turmeric, or matcha for a visually appealing touch.
Exfoliating Agents
Include a tablespoon of ground coffee or sugar for an extra boost in exfoliation.
Scent Enhancers
Grate a small amount of citrus zest (lemon or orange) for a refreshing twist.
Texture Variation
Blend in a small amount of colloidal oatmeal for a soothing and calming texture.
Fragrance-Free Option
If you prefer a fragrance-free scrub or you have a sensitive skin type, omit the essential oils and let the natural scents of the base ingredients shine.
Feel free to mix and match these substitutions and variations to create a scrub that suits your preferences and addresses specific skincare needs. Remember to always do a patch test when trying new ingredients, especially if you have sensitive skin.
