When autumn rolls in, there's nothing better than filling your home with the cosy, warming scent of pumpkin spice. If you love natural body products and want to bring those seasonal vibes into your skincare routine, this pumpkin spice soap recipe is a must-try. It's a simple, fun DIY using melt and pour glycerin soap, pumpkin powder, and essential oils -perfect for beginners and soap-making pros alike.

Ingredients - Easy, Vegan & Autumn-Inspired

You only need a handful of ingredients to whip up your own handmade pumpkin spice soap:

A silicone mold, a small bottle, a bowl of powder, and six white cubes on a wooden board are arranged on a white surface.
  • Glycerin Melt and Pour Soap Base - This is the foundation of the soap. It's vegan, gentle on the skin, and incredibly easy to use-no dealing with lye or cold process methods.
  • Pumpkin Powder - Adds natural colour, exfoliation, and skin-loving vitamins. A great seasonal addition that pairs beautifully with fall scents.
  • Essential Oils - For fragrance, use a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and ginger. Or look for a pre-mixed pumpkin spice essential oil blend for ease. These oils offer a natural scent with potential therapeutic use.
  • Orange Mica Powder (Optional) - If you want your soap to have a vibrant, coppery hue, a pinch of orange mica will do the trick.
  • Soap Mold - A silicone soap mold is best for easy release and fun shapes like leaves or pumpkins.

All ingredients are vegan, cruelty-free, and environmentally friendly. You can find them online or in most craft stores. No need for sodium hydroxide, a lye solution, or complicated equipment-this is a melt and pour method, ideal for your first batch of soap.

For exact quantities see the recipe card below.

Instructions

A block of white soap on a wooden board, a small brown bottle, and a bowl of yellow powder on a light-colored, speckled surface.

Cut the soap base into small chunks for even melting.

Melt gently using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts.

Clear glass bowl containing several white, square wax cubes viewed from above, placed on a light-colored surface.
A hand holding a small white bowl filled with yellow powder above a glass measuring cup containing a white liquid.

Stir in the pumpkin powder, ensuring there are no lumps.

Add essential oils -10-15 drops of your favourite fall blend.

A hand holds a small amber glass bottle above a glass bowl containing a yellowish, frothy liquid mixture.
A round orange bar of soap stands upright on a white surface, with a blurry plaid pumpkin and autumn decorations in the background.

Mix in orange mica powder if desired for colour. Pour the soap mixture into your silicone mold. Let sit overnight, then unmold your bars and enjoy!

This natural soap makes two bars using a standard mold. For best results, wrap your final product in parchment paper or store in an airtight container.

Substitutions and Variations

Want to customise your DIY pumpkin spice soap? Here are some fun ways to make it your own:

  • Try a different melt and pour base, like coconut milk or shea butter, for added skin benefits.
  • Use cocoa powder or turmeric instead of orange mica to naturally tint the soap.
  • Swap pumpkin powder for homemade pumpkin puree-but be aware this may reduce shelf life and require refrigeration.
  • Use a wooden loaf mold for rustic, sliceable soap bars or fun pumpkin-shaped molds for gifting.
  • Add ground spices like cinnamon or clove for texture-but use sparingly to avoid irritation.

This pumpkin spice soap recipe is very forgiving, so feel free to experiment once you've nailed the original recipe.

FAQ's

Can I make pumpkin spice soap without lye?

Yes! This recipe uses a melt and pour base, which has already gone through saponification. No need to handle sodium hydroxide or a lye mixture.

Where can I find pumpkin powder?

You can order it online or find it in health food stores. It's a popular ingredient for skin and hair products.

What if I don't have orange mica?

The soap will still look lovely-more of a deep yellow or beige from the pumpkin powder alone.

How long does the soap last?

If stored in a dry, cool place, these soap bars can last up to a year. Avoid moisture to prevent softening.

Can I use fragrance oils instead of essential oils?

Yes, just check they are skin-safe and follow the recommended usage rate. Fragrance oils tend to be stronger than essential oils.

Can I make a bigger batch?

Absolutely. Just double or triple the ingredients, and make sure you have enough molds on hand.

What gives the soap its scent?

The essential oil blend (or fragrance oil) provides that classic pumpkin spice aroma. There are even pre-made pumpkin spice essential oils available!

Making homemade pumpkin spice soaps is a fun, cosy craft project for the autumn season. It's quick, beginner-friendly, and leaves you with a natural, vegan product you can enjoy or gift to others. Whether you're making your first soap or adding to your second batch from last year, this is one fall soap you'll come back to again and again.
