Whether you're hosting a gathering or simply craving a savory indulgence, these Viral Air Fryer Pasta Chips are guaranteed to steal the show. So, roll up your sleeves, fire up your air fryer, and let's dive into the magic of plant-based cooking!
This is one of those viral recipes TikTok - so I thought I would publish a vegan version - to be fair the only amendment is using vegan parmesan instead of regular parmesan. You could also use nutritional yeast too.
Ingredients
To prepare the Viral Air Fryer Pasta Chips, gather the following ingredients: penne pasta, marinara sauce, dried Italian seasoning, olive oil, vegan parmesan cheese, and salt and pepper. Penne pasta's shape is ideal for achieving a crispy texture. Marinara sauce adds tanginess, while dried Italian seasoning brings aromatic herbs and spices. Olive oil ensures crispness, while vegan parmesan cheese offers a dairy-free alternative and a 'cheesy' flavour. Salt and pepper round out the flavors, resulting in a savory snack that's both delicious and vegan-friendly.

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Cook pasta according to the package instructions in a large pot of salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta with olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well coated.

Place the seasoned pasta in the air fryer basket in a single layer. The best way may need to be to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
Air fry the pasta at 400°F (200°C) for about 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time, or until the pasta is crispy and golden brown. You're aiming for crispy perfection here!
While the pasta chips are cooking, heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat.
Once the pasta chips are crispy, remove them from the air fryer and sprinkle the grated vegan parmesan cheese over the top.
Serve the crispy pasta chips hot with marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy!
Hint: Air fryers can vary so make sure you keep checking on your pasta chips so that they don't burn. I have the Ninja Foodie air fryer for reference.

Substitutions & Variations
This recipe is delicious as it is but you could make some substitutions if you like...
Vegan parmesan cheese - I use the Nurishh vegiano but you can use your favourite vegan parmesan alternative, or also use nutritional yeast too.
Pasta - other pasta shapes will work as well, although some better than others and cooking times may vary. You could also try to use gluten free pasta for a gluten free version.
Italian seasoning - if you don't have dried italian seasoning you could use dried oregano or dried basil.
Marinara sauce - for a twist on the classic marinara dip, consider these flavorful alternatives:
- Pesto Sauce: Opt for a traditional basil pesto or try a variation like sun-dried tomato pesto or broccoli pesto for a punch of intense flavor.
- Garlic Aioli: Whisk together vegan mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt for a creamy and zesty dip.
- Vegan Cheese Sauce: Whip up a velvety cheese sauce using plant-based milk, nutritional yeast, flour, and spices for a decadent dipping experience.
- Hummus: Choose your favorite variety of hummus-classic, roasted red pepper, or even spinach and artichoke-for a creamy and protein-packed option.
- Spicy Salsa: Kick up the heat with a spicy salsa made from diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, cilantro, lime juice, and salt.
- Balsamic Glaze: Drizzle aged balsamic vinegar reduction over the pasta chips for a tangy and slightly sweet dipping option.
Experiment with these alternatives to find the perfect accompaniment to your Viral Air Fryer Pasta Chips, adding a burst of flavor and excitement to every bite of this viral TikTok recipe!

FAQ
Can I use any type of pasta for this recipe?
While penne pasta works best due to its shape, you can experiment with any other kind of pasta shapes like rigatoni, bowtie pasta (farfalle pasta) or fusilli. Just keep in mind that the cooking time may vary slightly.
Can I make this recipe gluten-free?
Yes, you can easily make this great snack recipe gluten-free by using gluten-free penne pasta or any other gluten-free pasta alternative such as chickpea pasta. Ensure that all other ingredients, such as the marinara sauce and seasoning, are also gluten-free.
How long do I cook the pasta chips in the air fryer?
Generally, pasta chips should be cooked in the air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for about 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until they are golden brown and crispy. However, cooking times may vary depending on the type and brand of air fryer used, so keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Can I make this recipe without an air fryer?
While the air fryer yields the crispiest results, you can still make pasta chips by baking them in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for approximately 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are crispy.
What are some seasoning variations I can try?
You can customize the seasoning of your pasta chips to suit your taste preferences. Some popular variations include adding garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or even a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
How should I store leftover pasta chips?
To store leftover pasta chips, allow them to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to 72 days, although they are best enjoyed fresh. If they start to lose their crispiness, you can reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes to revive their crunch.
