Substitutions and Variations
There are plenty of simple ways to adjust this Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup recipe to suit your taste and how you plan to use it.
Adjust the sweetness
If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce the light brown sugar slightly or replace it with coconut sugar for a deeper, caramel-like sweetness. Don't be tempted to use white sugar though, as you won't get the same flavour profile.
Add more pumpkin
For a stronger pumpkin flavour, try increasing the amount of pumpkin puree to ¾ cup. Or, if you prefer more subtle spices, adjust the amount of pumpkin spice to taste.
Add vanilla or maple syrup
You could also experiment with adding a dash of vanilla bean extract for extra warmth, or a splash of maple syrup for a natural sweetness.
Add chai-inspired spices
If you're a fan of chai, consider adding a pinch of cardamom or ginger for a spicier variation. With these easy tweaks, you can customise the syrup to perfectly suit your fall cravings!
